Timothy Griffin: Music

His Eye Is On The Sparrow - Instrumental

(Timothy Griffin)
November 2, 2009

This is one of those songs that always encourages me when I am needlessly fretting over some situation. I think of the words or just play the melody.

sparrow_resized.jpgIt is based on the scripture, Matthew 10:29-31, which reads: Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

There is nothing more that needs to be said about God's ability and promise to take care of His children. But if you do a little research on this song, you will find that the lyricist was inspired by a Christian couple. The woman was bedridden and the man was crippled, yet amidst their infirmities, they exuded such a hope that it caused inquiry. The bedridden woman's response was, "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me."
